The Story Behind the Cap

Carried By Working-Class History

The Calder takes its name from the River Calder – a lifeline of Yorkshire, England's coal country and, when connected to the River Aire, a vital artery of the industrial rise. This cap pays tribute to that legacy with clean lines and natural materials, balancing working-class heritage with today’s daily wear and style.

"So light, you'll forget it's there."

Inspired by one of the waterways that served as transportation through England's industrial heartland, the Calder is crafted from premium hemp – a naturally breathable and lightweight material that offers exceptional comfort throughout the summer months. The fabric features a naturally worn appearance, complete with subtle nep (fabric pill) texture that adds depth and character. Whether you're attending a wedding, enjoying a backyard barbecue, or relaxing by the water, this cap marries fashion with function and can dress up any summer outfit.

Our caps are sized in CMs to get the best fit. For help measuring your head, reference this step-by-step guide.

We chose hemp as a smarter alternative to traditional linen for warm-weather wear. While linen is lightweight and breathable, it can wrinkle easily and require more upkeep. Hemp delivers the same natural look and airy feel, but with greater durability, enhanced texture, and improved wrinkle resistance. Inside, a breathable mesh liner helps protect the cap by absorbing natural oils, keeping it comfortable and fresh on the hottest days.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Step 1: Wrap the soft tape, string, or cord around your head above your ears and eyebrows, where your cap usually sits.

Step 2: Double check to make sure the tape comes down far enough at the back of your head, hitting in the right spot.

Step 3: Take note of your measurement in CMs. If using a string or cord, mark where it meets so you can measure it using a traditional tape measure.

Step 4: Refer to the sizing chart above to see where you land.

For our comfort fit flex back caps, we always recommend sizing down. For our fitted caps, size up for a loose fit and size down if you prefer snug. Caps will usually stretch slightly, but rarely do they shrink.

Unfortunately, there is no universal sizing, so a Medium for one brand might be a Small for another. We highly recommend you measure your head to ensure you have an accurate size before ordering from Peaky Hat.

All of our caps are warehoused and shipped directly from Peoria, Illinois. If you place your order Monday through Friday before noon Eastern time, it ships out the exact same day.

We offer a 45-day window for returns and exchanges. Buying a cap online should be rewarding and enjoyable, not a risk. There is a $5 exchange fee and a $10 refund fee. If you ever have an issue, reach out to support@peakyhat.com and Ryan will handle it personally.

Our fabrics are sourced globally—from US mills to Scottish Harris Tweed and UK linens. The final stitching is done by a highly skilled team in Yiwu, China (the same district that produces caps for Stetson and Goorin Bros). We are completely transparent about this because we choose quality over optics, every time.
